Bastille Day, on the 14th of July, is celebrated nationwide in France. It is a day full of fireworks, parades and of course, lots of food! To help you celebrate even if you can't go back to France we've put together some Bastille Day essentials so you can feel like home!
What do we usually eat on Bastille Day? A bit of everything really. A typical Bastille Day meal can vary according to where in France you are from but we would highly suggest to start with "l'aperitif" ! Apero usually consists of canapes, smoked salmon, foie gras and mini quiches to nibble while drinking Champagne. Our Champagne Brut Cuvee Tradition Half Bottle is perfect for a quick drink before attacking the main!
After the apero, we usually have an entrée. This could possibly be a delicate and light dish such as a Scallops! This would go perfectly with our Chardonnay such as Domaine Frederic Magnien Coeur de Pierre.
Then comes the main. If you're gonna celebrate in Australia where it's winter, you could make the famous Gratin Dauphinois (potato bake with crème fraiche) or a Boeuf Bourguignon. Then we highly recommend a Burgundy red to go with that. Why not our Pommard Domaine Ardhui Les Lambots?
After the main, people would usually enjoy the Fromage (cheese) with a baguette and a nice salad. Camembert, Brie, Bleu.. The choice is large! Faites-vous plaisir! Red wine usually pairs easily with lots of cheese and for this we would recommend a Bordeaux such as Dallau Red 2016.
And finally the dessert. Macarons, Strawberry tart, crème brulee or chocolate mousse, anything French and sweet will do! A wine that will go with absolutely any dessert is definitely Remy Massin Champagne Rose. A fruity Champagne with cherry notes and fine bubbles.
We hope everyone is home and safe celebrating Bastille Day with lots of delicious food and wine. Happy Bastille Day everyone!
